        PPI-ePR

The PPI-ePR Evaluation Results Announcement and Users Experience Sharing, as part of the HA Convention 2007 was held on May 7 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

In the speech delivered by Dr. York Chow at the Opening Ceremony of the recent HA Convention held on 7th May, 2007, he mentioned that Hong Kong shall "develop a territory-wide electronic healthcare record system ".  The same idea has been elaborated by Mr. Shane Solomon in his speech at the same occasion that "Hong Kong has a unique opportunity to be the first in the world to offer its whole population access to their own eHR" and HA should "create the informed patient through the eHR".

The pilot trial was jump-started on 500 doctors and 10,000 patients.

Target Groups

Objectives

  • Private Hospitals
  • To enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors
  • Old Age Home
  • To allow continuity of care for the patients
  • Share Care Programs
  • To facilitate a free flow of patients between the two sectors
  • Private Practitioners
  • To allow timely access of clinical information
  • Group Practices

The PPI-ePR has basically achieved the objectives.  Hospital Authority had commissioned HK Medical Association to conduct an IT survey.   From the feedback obtained, over 6,600 patients registered and 88% of the respondents interested in joining PPI-ePR.

To bring out initiatives to the next level, Hospital Authority would like to extend the pilot to two years Interim evaluation in March 2007.  Moreover, to explore the use of SmarID card for patient registration and access is a further step to promote PPI-ePR.  Extend the service to SCHSA on a cost-recovery basis.  For sure, to pilot to more private hospitals and more private practitioners are the ultimate goal.
