eHealth Training Program for Nursing Professionals

The Health-Care Landscape has been changing so rapidly in recent years that doctors in all areas of healthcare professionals find they need to go back to university to keep up with the trends.  eHealth Consortium had responded by offering an education program designed to meet the needs of physicians in private practices as well as those employed in a hospital or other health setting.

The Education and Capacity Building ha
d facilitated The Essential eHealth Skills Workshop (EESW) last year, to promote the use of ICT as a complimentary tool in the health care industry, enhancing accessibility, quality and effectiveness of health care services in Hong Kong.  The workshop has achieved the objectives.  Most of the respondents considered that the workshop was very useful and over 75% considered that a re-run is necessary.

This year, we would focus on Nursing Professionals who are much greater in number and have more opportunities in handling the day-to-day health care issues.  Today, there are around 30,000 nurses in Hong Kong serving in different public or private health care areas including hospital, clinics, health institutions, and various health centers, but there is no structured training on eHealth for them.

This program is designed in collaboration with Hospital Authority, Institute of Advanced Nursing Studies (IANS), Nursinfo (Hong Kong), Internet Professional Association (iProA), as well as the professional nursing associations with the demanding schedule of nursing professionals in mind.

Our ultimate goal for this program is to support them in providing the best patient care possible within effective organizations that provide positive setting for their work.  It is also aimed at training up existing nursing professionals so that they would have a broader view and scope about eHealth, agree on its neccessity and benefits, and become pioneers to help driving its implementationin the health care industry.
